A builder that started as a carpenter
Ark Contractors is based in Maidstone and works across Kent and the South East. We grew out of carpentry and timber frame, and that is still the trade at the centre of the business, which is why the finish on our projects tends to be the thing customers mention first.
Today we take on full builds: design and build extensions, new build timber frame, refurbishments, container conversions, spraying and groundworks, for both homeowners and commercial clients.
How we work
Three things we do differently
None of it is complicated. It is mostly just doing what was agreed, when it was agreed.
We start with the survey, not the quote
Older Kent housing stock rarely matches its drawings. We measure and investigate before pricing, because a number produced from assumptions is a number that moves later, and it always moves in one direction.
One point of contact
You get a name and a number, not a rota. The person you speak to knows what happened on site yesterday and what is happening tomorrow.
We finish
The last five per cent of a job is where builders get their reputation. Snagging, making good, clearing the site and the certificates you need afterwards are part of the work, not a favour.
The team
Builders, carpenters and trusted trades
Our own team covers carpentry, groundworks, general building and spray finishing. Around them sits a settled network of electricians, plumbers, plasterers and roofers we have worked with for years, the same faces, job after job, which is what makes a programme hold together.
It also means we can price and deliver a whole project rather than handing you back a half-finished site to arrange the rest yourself.

Director
Jo is the owner of Ark Contractors and has been at the heart of the business since its launch, just over three years ago. Jo has a hands-on approach and a passion for quality work. He oversees projects from start to finish, making sure everything is delivered to a great, high quality standard.
Kai
Carpentry Apprentice
Kai has been part of the Ark team for the past year and is coming towards the end of his carpentry apprenticeship. He has gained plenty of hands-on experience across a range of projects and continues to develop his skills on site every day.
Harry
Sprayer
Harry is our specialist sprayer, helping to give every finish that clean, flawless look. From containers to interior and exterior walls, a professional flawless finish every time.
Claire
Office Manager
Claire is the friendly face behind the office at Ark. From answering your phone calls and enquiries to putting together quotes, Claire keeps everything running smoothly. You may meet Claire when she comes to visit you for a quote, helping you put a face to the name.
